Arrival Thursday 13th February in Hamburg/Germany
On Thursday 13th February 2014 the following dogs fly off to Hamburg to their new homes: Linus, Marie, Lola, Valentino, Kim und Luke. Marie and her brother Linus was found early morning on the forecourt of a veterinarian. At night somebody had thrown both over the fence. Both are open-minded little puppies, very playful and typically are good with the other puppies in the kennel. Marie and Linus are very happy. They didn´t have to wait long for their people. Now, both starts a better life with their own families in Germany. Good luck with them! Valentino ran completely distraught about a busy highway. He ran into the traffic again and again. With some food he could be lured. His previous owner probably had no imagination of the breed German Shepherd and had docked his tail. A German Shepherd has a tail! Valentino looks like a purebred German Shepherd, but he is a bit too small, possibly through to poor posture and bad food. But now everything should be better. People from Germany are interested in adopting the pretty boy and let him reserve for themselves. On Wednesday he can arrive in peace to his new family and can start a better life. We wish that is your forever home Valentino. One day Lola has just walked into the kitchen of her foster mum in Cyprus and put her right at the feet to be petted. She was very tired, hungry, and she has probably already spent several days on the road. Lola is a very loving dog who wants to please everyone. Now she can, because she is adopted and her new family will enjoy the cuddles with her. On Wednesday Lola starts a better dog life. We wish you all the best! Luke and his brother Kim could be rescued out of horrible circumstances they had to live in. When they came to the shelter, they were very skinny and in bad condition. Now a few weeks later both are recovered and healthy and vaccinated. Both have been fortunate to have found a foster home in Germany. From there, they can find their final families. To be adopted, the chances are better in Germany. We wish all our dogs a good flight and a beautiful new dog’s life. Can you remember the story “Found one dog, came home with ten – a true story“? Today there is a small update from the Mommy with her puppies. The mommy has get a name and is now called Tasha. She has born 5 boys and 4 girls. All of them are so far very well and healthy. Tasha is a wonderful mom and takes a care about her babies. It’s a really hart job for her, since the little ones started to get there teeth. Luckily they also started to eat puppy food now and the don’t depend fully on the milk of the their mom anymore. Also we give her several hours a day a brake of her pups and she can stay outside with the helpers. All puppies look so beautiful and in a short while we’ll introduce them individual to you. Carole, Eamonn, Julie and Ace had a busy few days this week. We were very pleased to be invited to The Grammar School, Junior, on Wednesday and Friday to join each year group’s assembly. Wednesday and Friday saw us delivering our Be A Tree presentation where we Spoke to the children about staying safe around their own dogs, friends and relatives’ dogs and also dogs they don’t know. It was amazing how many of the children have at least one dog of their own and so we were able to relate our presentation to the children’s own experiences. We explained how they can assess how a dog is feeling, by recognising signs a dog may perform which shows his discomfort at being approached or interacted with, how to approach a dog and to know when to walk away. We went on to talk about kindness to all animals and that positive training and general care methods are important to a dog and that they can be great fun which children, safely supervised, can be involved in. Ace and Carole performed some great and useful tricks and demonstrated how the children could achieve a couple of those moves with their own dogs. Ace was most definitely the star of the show! The children had some very sensible and important questions and they all listened attentively – possibly because they had been told that Ace only came out for good, quiet children! Children and teachers alike were so welcoming and we all enjoyed our visits there. We are also very grateful for the School’s kind donation made to CyDRA. On Thursday Carole and Julie had been invited to join BARC at an assembly at St John’s School in Episkopi. The theme of the assembly was how to help stray animals. We talked about our work and how they children should deal with finding a stray dog, various ideas for fundraising and how they can help to improve the plight of stray animals. Again the pupils listened very attentively, but we have to admit that again the show was stolen by Chloe, a beautiful stray dog currently living in the BARC shelter waiting for her new home! We were very grateful for the opportunity to visit St John’s and it is great to know that the pupils are concerned about the welfare of animals, as they picked the subject of the assembly themselves. We look forward to working together with BARC on other occasions. On Tuesday Barbara and Carole were invited to the Limassol Ladies’ Club coffee morning to speak about their work for CyDRA. Barbara spoke about fostering and adopting and all that ensues and Carole spoke about the education program of in house training for dogs and volunteers in rescue and also that aimed at the wider community regarding animal welfare. This was a very positive morning for us and we are grateful for offers of help from new volunteers and also the kind donation made to CyDRA by the Club members. Related...

Lea is born approx in October 2013 and her high to shoulder is 46cm. Lea was thrown over the fence of a shelter. She was very thin, anxiously and she hobbled. The investigation at the vet found that her leg was broken. Lea was immediately operated, in the hope to heal the leg. But unfortunately it is a very old fracture and that is not easy to fix. Lea has no pain, she only hobbles and doesn´t tread on the leg. Soon, Lea will be relocating to the shelter. We hope that she will not be bullied by the other dogs there. Lea is a very sweet dog who likes to cuddle. Lea goes very well with other dogs. The opportunities for Lea to find a forever home are bad, but we don´t give up hope. Because their chances on a new home are very difficult, we would like to find a sponsor for Lea. Someone who opens his heart, supports her and thinks of her. Who would like to support Lea? Related...
