Lea is born approx in October 2013 and her high to shoulder is 46cm. Lea was thrown over the fence of a shelter. She was very thin, anxiously and she hobbled. The investigation at the vet found that her leg was broken. Lea was immediately operated, in the hope to heal the leg. But unfortunately it is a very old fracture and that is not easy to fix. Lea has no pain, she only hobbles and doesn´t tread on the leg. Soon, Lea will be relocating to the shelter. We hope that she will not be bullied by the other dogs there. Lea is a very sweet dog who likes to cuddle. Lea goes very well with other dogs. The opportunities for Lea to find a forever home are bad, but we don´t give up hope. Debbie is a lovely little dog, about 9 years old, who has already spent many, many years in the shelter. She loves contact with people very much and it’s such a shame that she has to live in the shelter. Her big handicap to finding a home is, that she is Leishmaniosis positive. Those of us who deal with this illness day by day know that it’s not a big problem if a dog has this illness. However, most of the people are afraid to take such a dog in. For Debbie it is really a disaster, because she is desperate for a family she can give all her love too. We’ll do all we can do to make her life as happy as possible, but that will never replace the love and care of her very own family. It is wonderful for Debbie to have a sponsor and to know that there are lovely people who are thinking of her. And maybe one day, someone will fall in love with her and take her home. Tuesday 4th February 2014 at St Barnabas Church, Limassol Today Barbara and Carole visited the Limassol Ladies Club at St Barnabus Church Hall. We knew it was going to be a great morning because no sooner had we arrived we were presented with coffee and beautiful homemade cakes. I could get used to this! Barbara started the presentation by telling the ladies what CyDRA actually does – and this included adoption, transport, sponsorship, supporting several rescue facilities and individuals, fostering, health care and general welfare, fund raising and financial responsibilities etc. The ladies commented that they did not realise that so much was involved in the rescue of dogs. Carole spoke about the education program – including projects such as Be a Tree, General Dog Care presentations for schools and older children and the various activities which come under Tales to Tails Therapy Dogs. She also explained about the training team at Julias and the various activities set up to encourage people to look at dogs more favourably – such as the therapy work, young animal trainers group at Julias and Animal Antics club which is to start off soon. The question time after the presentation was very active and it was wonderful so see some of the members volunteer their services in areas such as general kennel work, vet or airport runs and presentations to schools etc. At the end of the presentation the Limassol Ladies Club presented Barbara with Euros 220.00 raised by the members as a donation for Cydra and Julia’s. This was a wonderful surprise and one we truly appreciate. All in all the morning was hugely successful. Both Barbara and I had a great time – which we knew was running out when we were both still answering questions as the tables and chairs were being stacked! There is never enough time!
