News of Marco from his foster home in Germany

Marco is received very well in his foster home in Germany. His flight to freedom was on 21 March. His foster mom describes Marco as follows: Marco is a very amazing young dog and my thanks goes to Carole and her team of trainers in Cyprus. They have through their work with Marco made an open-minded and trusting dog. Marco goes really well on a leash, has no fear of everyday things, is very friendly and very willing to learn. He is also known as garden helper, he is quite usable. He shakes the earth from weeds weeded from, so that the waste is not so hard. He breaks down the empty plastic flower pots, so that the yellow bag is not as fast as full and he shakes the gardening gloves after work. In the house Marco is totally relaxed and calm, outside he always discovers the treats and is willing to do something for the treats. Marco is a dream dog, but he is still missing his dream home. Our poor beauty Elina had a guardian angel on the road…

… or just lucky that our Carol was at the same time on the road. Elina was discovered the first time on 22th March 2014. Carol (one of our trainers) left the shelter in which she operates on this day and turning onto the road that she drives home when she noticed lots of brake lights of traffic ahead. As she came closer she saw a white dog dodging the vehicles on the road. She heard a screech of breaks (only travelling at approximately 5 km/h) then the dog was seen limping off between cars. She stopped off the road as did another lady and they got out of the vehicles and tried to coax this emaciated white pointer bitch to come to us. She moved off the road thankfully and down a single track road. You could see all of her ribs and hip bones beneath her scarred skin: she was now limping badly with her left hind leg carried off the ground. One of the vehicles must have hit her and she was not in a good state. The other lady said she could not help as had to go. Carol followed her up to a small farm where she stopped at an adult male pointer and a young pup. The farm owner came and met her. She was very fearful of us humans and limped off away. As She had just been at the shelter she had some treats left. But she took no notice and limped off up a hill on 3 legs. She was traumatised. The owner of the farm didn´t speak much English but he eventually understood what Carol tried to explain to him. If the dog comes back in, to catch her and call her and Carol will come and get her. Carol went back the next day and the Cypriot man said he had her. She was back to where his dogs were, but he had not caught her, she had evaded him. Trying to capture is failed as she limped away. Carol left food and a bowl with the man. But we didn´t give up and a few days later try again. On 26 March the farm owner had actually managed to lure her into his truck. Carole went to the farm, picks her up and brought her to a shelter. Once there, she got good food and now she can recover from the exertions. She was assessed on Thursday by Barbara and Carole, she is a sweet dog. She settled in and on Saturday morning we went a trip to the vet to get a check up and to do blood tests for Erlichia and Leishmaniasis. Thankfully she is clear of both of these diseases. Needing some feeding up and some pats and she will make a lovely companion doggie as she has a sweet easy going personality. When we took her out to the training compound for introductions to other possible kennel mates, she was wonderful with the other dogs. Off lead she followed Carol closely and then others round the compound. She likes human company and affection. Although not so confident, understandably at the moment, that will come with more positive interactions and training we all provide at the shelter. She takes training treats very gently from handlers and her tail is happy wagging when she approaches. If she has gained some weight she will be a beauty. We hope this beautiful girl finds a loving home that she deserves. She will make some one very happy.     Related...

Freeway – is now called Marley

Freeway is now called Marley, like the dog in the movie ” Marley and Me”. Now after ten days he now is with us we must note this name fits him perfectly. The ride home from the airport went smoothly. He immediately jumped into the car, lay down and dozed the whole trip. At home some family members were waiting eagerly for their new family member. Everything was ready, we went a little walk and then he was allowed to explore his new home and meet his family. He got something to eat and then he has a period of calm and we wanted to sleep. But Marley was terribly excited, he jumped and ran through the beds back and forth. Finally he lay down on the tiles and not in his dog basket and the rest of the night he was quiet. The next morning he came with a wagging tail to us. The first morning round was a nightmare. He pulled me over the meadows and paths, but the next round was already much more relaxed and from then it was always better. The first five days he behaved like a lamb, we thought the poor dog can´t bark. He learned quickly the German commands. But now the tide has turned: he can bark! Marley is crazy for toys and he loves to cuddle and unfortunately to eat. Marley is nice and friendly to all people. Only in young children we must still be careful because his temperament. Marley will go to dog school soon  and there he will learn a lot.       Related...
