Jasper – happy with his new family

Jasper – happy with his new family

One April evening this beautiful, gentle little boy turned up at our front gate. Whether he heard the dogs and was looking for company, or it was just luck, who knows.

He was looking rather skinny and coughing a bit, but otherwise looked in a reasonable condition and was not shy of people or other dogs.  What to do with him at 11pm on a Saturday night was the question.  We couldn’t turn our backs on him.  I made a phone call and managed to secure a place for him the following week, and a neighbour was able to take him in until Monday.  She fell in love with him, as did her own little dog, but the circumstances were not right for her to keep him sadly.

Jasper settled very quickly in my neighbour’s house and he was very well behaved.  We felt he had possibly come from a proper home, but had no idea how he turned up on our road.

In the car going to the shelter the following Monday he was comfortable and confident and when we handed him over to the lovely helper he went happily.  It was me that cried all the way home!

As luck would have it, as he was young and with a bit of a cough, it was felt that he needed some special care and a wonderful foster home was found for him within a couple of days, and the vet treated him for his cough.  Now, this was an even luckier turn of events for little Jasper as some friends of his foster mum had family staying with them.  They got to know Jasper over the time they were here and fell totally in love with him, so much so that they couldn’t bear to be without him.

Within a few weeks Jasper was made ready to travel and is now living the life of riley in the UK, going on lovely walks with lots of other doggy friends.  Very rarely do things happen as quickly and smoothly as this for our doggies, but this time all the stars were obviously in alignment for gentle Jasper.
